We first met Kelly and Dane at their engagement session, roaming around New Orleans in some new and favorite places. They were so much fun to be around. Although we haven’t known them long, it was easy to see that their colorful Springtime Il Mercato wedding was a perfect reflection of their fun and charismatic personalities.
Kelly got ready for her wedding at the home she grew up in. “Sixteen Candles” was on in the living room, and photographs from parent’s and parent’s weddings, and from Kelly and her siblings as kids, were framed all around the house. Dane got ready at their house, where the two of them met up and shared a sweet first look. The two of them rode to their wedding together in an antique car.
We arrived at Il Mercato where Antigua Floral painted the place in beautiful, colorful blooms. The two said their vows before their friends and family, then it was off to the party. What a party it was.
“There were far too many favorite moments from our wedding day to narrow it down to just one!!
To start with, there’s nothing quite like getting ready at my childhood home, watching chick flicks with mimosas, surrounded by the most important women in my life. Our personal flowers were delivered to my parents’ home and the moment I saw the rainbow of colors Antigua Floral assembled in my bouquet, I literally stopped breathing, I’ve never seen flowers so beautiful. Dane and I wrote cards to each other to read before getting dressed and I was pretty sure I ruined my makeup, Dane’s was so perfect. I rode to our first look and then to Il Mercato with my groom in a badass, beautiful antique car loaned to us by my sister-in-law’s family and it was such a blast! We surprised so many people and turned so many heads going across the Crescent City Connection in 5 o’clock traffic, it was hilarious. While the band was practicing our first dance song before the ceremony, Dane and I got to sneak a secret first dance in a back hallway- it was completely private and special and I’ll never forget that moment. Post-ceremony, we enjoyed my dad’s own raw and charbroiled oysters during our private dinner, spied on our guests in the courtyard below, and sat soaking in the moment, just the two of us, saying OMG WE’RE MARRIED- WHAT!!!! We tore up the dance floor to the best music I’ve ever heard at a wedding, yes I’m partial but it doesn’t matter, the Phunky Monkeys are THE BEST. We ended the night jumping up and down in a two person mosh pit, then left surrounded by our loved ones, through a tunnel of bubbles. Everything was perfect and I couldn’t be happier. To be honest I’m still on Cloud 9 :)”
“Being a graphic designer who usually designs invitations and all sorts of art for other people’s weddings definitely added to the pressure when Kelly was designing invitations, signage, and all sorts of other things for our wedding day. Everything she created for our wedding was beautiful and wonderful. Kelly even taught herself wood burning just to make our cake topper.
I am extremely proud of Kelly and I for having a blast at our own wedding. That sounds simple, but we have heard too many stories of weddings being a blur of obligations. We included what was important to us and got rid of the rest. It is a wonderful thing to stand up in front of so many people who love you. Everyone should do it at least once. It was all fantastic. We ate too much, drank just enough, and danced most of the night.”
