I just love hearing how couples met. There are so many romantic, warm, sometimes hilarious, but always unique stories out there. Katherine and Wayne’s story is a sweet one. Here’s her story of how they met.
“Wayne was moving back to New Orleans from a few years in North Carolina and I was living in New Orleans recovering from a string of bad boyfriends. Sitting on the couch one day, my roommate started asking me random questions about myself, and I answered cautiously. When I asked what she was doing, she asked me not to be mad at her but that she was setting up my OkCupid profile — I didn’t have to do anything with it but she would give me the password and let me take it from there. I received a ton of really horrible messages over a couple of weeks before I got one that said “Hi, my name is Wayne and I have nice hair. We should be friends.” Something about that message and his profile took me from “I will never actually meet someone in person from this because that’s scary” to “I kind of want to meet this guy.” I agreed to meet him and he let me set the place — Oak Wine Bar, my favorite place at the time. He was a little late because of a repairman at his new apartment, so I was sitting at the bar with a glass of wine when he walked in. As I wrote to him in the wedding day letter I gave him, I think a little part of me knew, when I saw him, that I would love him forever. He sat down and we started talking. After a couple of hours, and my friends bugging me to show up to a birthday thing, we both realized we didn’t want to stop hanging out. He ended up meeting my best friends that night and the rest, as they say, is history….”
Here’s Katherine’s recap of their favorite part of the day:
“Can I say everything? The venue was incredibly gorgeous, the flowers/makeup/hair/dress all turned out perfectly but the excitement and happiness we both felt was probably our favorite. Wayne said he didn’t know if he would cry, and told me not to get mad if he didn’t, that it didn’t mean he wasn’t happy or I didn’t look beautiful. Well, he cried. A lot. That and the little moments caught on camera that were just “us”, I will be forever grateful for. I can tell when I look at photos what he was saying to me, or what we were laughing about. We wanted our wedding day to be fun, for our guests to have a good time and to enjoy it ourselves. I think it’s safe to say that we pulled that off. It’s definitely our favorite day ever!”
